Why did Jacob see Jesus?

Sometimes I write blog posts that are more rambling thought and I never publish them.

This is one that I stumbled back on and I found it interesting. I still wonder about Jacob. I love how different our prophets are, even in ancient times.

Both Nephi and Lehi mention that Jacob sees Jesus but Jacob never mentions it himself. I find this interesting.

I also wondered why Jacob?

Why did Jacob see Christ in mortality? And not only in his mortality but possibly in his youth.

Was it his worthiness? Was in preparation?
Lehi mentions that it was in Jacobs youth so that reconfirms that possibility- was it in preparation for some great challenge?

I looked through Jacobs life at the challenges that he would later face.

Not all of these are different from our own.

He was probably still young when his family split.

His older brother Nephi fled in the night from his older brothers Laman and Lemuel. What a difficult challenge this most likely was for all of them.

Throughout his life his people would become very wicked. They would fall into lasciviousness even so much that the Lamanites righteousness in some ways exceeded their own in that their husbands were unfaithful to their wives.

He had to compell his people fearlessly in this way and call them to repentance in front of their wives and their chilren. Something he did not want to do.

He also faced off with Sherem. A very persuasive and young anti-Christ who denies the Christ and is bent of persuading Jacob. Sherem has had much success on persuading the people to not believe in Christ but because of Jacobs visits with ministering angels and hearing the voice of the Lord he can not be shaken.
